Ah, back to my old blogging ways, and not really keeping up to speed, about two weeks ago I went to see Interpol with Susie at the Astoria...
They are about to release their third album, and originally when I heard their stuff a few years back I wasn't too interested, although I know some other people from work who were in on the act from early days, but since then I've heard enough to make me want to see them.
Anyway, only one support act, and it was the Maccabees (who you might remember we also saw supporting the Fratellis). This time we didn't have the Horrors to come on and destroy our eardrums so could hear them more, and also I knew two or three songs from the radio, but they were still only so-so in my opinion.
Interpol themselves were pretty good, although it was a bit weird going to a concert that only lasted about an hour and a quarter, seeing as the last two or three had been far longer, but I think that was fair as they do have a sound that can get a bit samey if you listen to them for a long time.
As always, most of them were dressed up in suits, and they do seem to have cultivated a moody look about them, not depressed, just not smiling, except for maybe the guitarist, who did smile, and also was doing some interesting dancing whilst playing, kind of all bendy legged.
They played most of the songs I knew (which were off the second album) except my favourite, but it wasn't a single so I didn't really expect them to (I've stuck a live version below). It finished by 10 as well for G-A-Y so it meant it wasn't a late one coming home, which is always a bonus.
mickle: great; large; much.
