Doing my bit for char-i-dee mate

My company was taken over just under two years ago by Euronet. One of their principles or guidelines or something is that they give something back to the community....and so, this year we had our very own day(s) of caring, where we gave up work for a day and went out and did something for someone else.

We came up with two possible events over four days. One was to refurbish and redecorate a Scout Hall, and the second was to help clear and renovate a community narrowboat. Being in Canada, I was left with only one choice, the narrowboat, which, by chance, was the one I would have chosen anyway.

We were the second day to go, some would say we were the glory boys, just finishing off the work that had already been done, which may be true seeing as I didn't see what it was like to begin with. The jobs on the day involved painting, digging, burning, strimming, washing, hammering etc. all around the area, including the boat itself. Because I got there a little bit late, I didn't get much say in what I did, so I basically spent the whole day painting (and taking pictures of others).

We were very lucky with the weather (it was sunny all day), and so it was a good day to be out in the sun, and not at work. Here are some pictures I (or others) took.

I was mostly painting that fence on my own, but then some people started to help me from the other end. Unfortunately, we ran out of green and so had to do the last bit brown, it looked a bit weird.

To thank the people doing the scout hut, they get a cub scout badge to sew onto their shirts or shorts or whatever. To thank us narrowboaters, we get a trip on the boat, with alcohol and a barbecue afterwards.....seems fair to me (it's tomorrow by the way, it's going to rain)

Oh well, it was still a good day had by all I think.
