Another concert for Tina to attend with me, we went to see Reverend and the Makers last week (or maybe it was the week before thinking about it, man am I rubbish) at the Astoria.
I really liked Heavyweight Champion of the World when it came out, and then bought the album, and on initial listen wasn't too impressed and didn't really listen to it again. I had already bought tickets for this show though so was always going to go. My brother hadn't filled me with anticipation either as he said he had already seen them and they weren't too special.
So I headed into the concert with doused hopes, but, you know, it's still a gig, something to do to get us out of the house.
Support came from A Human, who were pretty good. I can't really remember what kind of music they played as it was two weeks ago and they were the support, but I do remember that the guitarist and keyboard player wore silver jackets, and the lead singer was fond of a strange pose or two. Definitely entertaining though, and that was good as they were the only support. It was funny really as they were on an hour and half after doors, I don't know whether there was supposed to be somebody on before that.....
Main act came on, lead singer blokey started talking in his Sheffield accent and the music started. I must add at this point that I had listened to the album a few more times on the day, and a few songs had started to grow on me. Of course, Tina hadn't, and coupled with his singing accent she pretty much had no idea what he was saying. Just as well the band were really good. The lead singer blokey (maybe I should find out his name) has his own little dancing style, kinda with his shoulders hunched and his arms bent.....quite amusing really.
Both singles went down a storm, but during the slow song there was far too much talking....I mean, who pays £10-12 to go to a music concert and then talk through the songs, and it happens at others which cost a lot more, I just don't understand it really, especially people who, halfway through a song will say "oh, I love this song, this is my favourite blah blah blah.....". If it is your favourite then why don't you listen to them playing!!!!
Anyway, to summarise, both bands were good, both lead singers were interesting, and I probably won't listen to my brother's advice on concerts again.
Here's some songs
